THE OTWAYS HINTERLAND

If it’s adventure you seek, viola! You’ve arrived. We have all kinds of activities in the Otways to make even the most hard core exercise junkies happy. Famous for its trail bike riding, Forrest and surrounds has an extensive network of mountain bike trails. Perfect for both those looking for fun family rides through the bush, or others yearning to arrive home with mud-spattered backs. Don’t forget to take on the Old Beechy Rail Trail for some stunning hinterland views.

The Great Otway National and State parks are full of hiking opportunities, with so many nature trails leading past waterfalls, reaching mountain peaks or skirting stunning lakes. The waterways of the Otways are rewarding for anglers keen on river and lake fishing. The West Barwon Dam for reddies, eels and trout. Bream, perch and mullet in the Gellibrand and Aire rivers. A haven for fishers of freshies.

If a bit of four wheel driving is more your thing, the tracks joining Anglesea, through the back roads to Apollo Bay via Deans Marsh, Big Hill and into Beech Forest are a blast. Stop off along the way for some great bushwalking tracks leading to Erskine, Beauchamp, and Triplet falls. Or visit the Giant Redwoods for a bit of astounding silence. Love horse riding? BYO mount for easy riding along amazing trails – camp along the way in the many campgrounds of the hinterland.
