TARNDIE HOMESTEAD
ONE OF VICTORIA’S OLDEST & BEAUTIFUL SURVIVING HOMESTEADS
TARNDIE HOMESTEAD – ACCOMMODATION – BIRREGURRA.
Tarndie is one of Victoria’s oldest surviving homesteads, and is the continuation of one of Australia’s oldest family farms. Today, the Dennis family still grow Polwarth wool and invite you to come and stay in either The Farmers Cottage or The Stables Studios to share the farm’s bucolic setting.
THE FARMERS COTTAGE
A 1940s farm workers cottage in the middle of the working sheep farm.
Featuring 2 bedrooms – a Queen bedroom and Twin bedroom (which has 2 King Single beds). We use natural fibres for a naturally good sleep with Australian made wool-filled pillows, quilts and underlays. Complemented with quality linen and the smell of fresh flowers.
Take in the surrounds on our 15 minute Farm Walking Trail. Meet a few of our famous Polwarth sheep and be daring and leave the front gate to discover the little nuggets of goodness in the Otways. Small-scale wineries, breweries and cider makers. Farm shops. Art galleries. Surprisingly good food and coffee. Lush waterfall walks. Soaring timbers. The Great Ocean Road is 40 minutes away at Lorne and will inspire even the most regular visitors.
Sometimes you just don’t want to do anything. So light up the open wood fire, pour a local shiraz, watch a DVD, read one of the books in your “to read” pile and sprawl out on the sofa. Crafty folk will also enjoy getting stuck into our famous Polwarth wool and yarns and create something at the source.
THE STABLES STUDIO
A modern fitout of a 1910s timber horse stables set amongst the historic Tarndwarncoort Homestead grounds.
A perfect space for 1 or 2 people to take in a country retreat without giving up the comforts of modern life. A light filled double level space featuring textile art pieces, natural materials and the simple luxury of quiet space surrounded by trees, sheep and even an old stone ruin.
Featuring 1 queen bed upstairs. Full kitchen. Bathroom. Meals/living room. Loft retreat. Outdoor firepit. Wifi. Books. Access to orchards, vegie garden and woolcraft studio and workspaces.
Dine in or organise a transfer to local eateries including Brae Restaurant in Birregurra.
